Welcome to "My Mama's Frankfurter Crown" site. My name is Evi and this site was conceived one day while I was sifting through my Grandmother's recipe cards at her apartment at the Good Samaritan Assisted Living Center in Boulder, Colorado.

I came upon a recipe card titled "Frankfurter Crown," dated 1973, and knew it was something special as I watched my mother's gaze drift off to the distant past, back when her mother would fix "Frankfurter Crown" for her.

Though I had never had much interest in the 70s, and my mother never expressed much interest in sharing the 70s, I realized that decade must have had an enormous impact on her during the impressionable years of her life. I wanted to know more.

What I found was so fascinating that I decided to document my research. I pondered how to best do this and decided that publishing this in digital format would be the perfect juxtaposition to the primitive times of this historical documentary.

My mother is quick to point out that it wasn't all that primitive. She notes that the photos you will soon see were taken with revolutionary, at that time, Kodak 110 Instamatic cameras in full color. She also mentions that it wasn't too long after 1973 that her family purchased a microwave oven, the first on their block.

Aside from the obvious lack of technology, I found a culture in 1973 that was rich with color, fashion, and passion. I've decided to give a short pictorial history of the year 1973, and continue on with my own endeavor to create the historically significant "Frankfurter Crown." As a tribute to the foods of the time...may they live on in our hearts and on our tables.

And now, on with my story!
